Broadway’s Alton Fitzgerald White is a triple talented singer, actor, and dancer who has performed the role of Mufasa in Disney’s The Lion King a record-breaking 4,308 times. Now, the pride lands royalty known for captivating audiences with his silky-smooth baritone brings his cabaret show, BROADWAY MY WAY, to Nashville as part of Studio Tenn and TPAC’s summer cabaret series. With music direction by John McDaniel, White’s unique show is an evening with Broadway’s best, featuring songs from characters he has played and interpretations of his favorite music by Stephen Sondheim, Alan Menken, and Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty, along with crowd-pleasing surprises.

Alton Fitzgerald White made his starring Broadway debut as John in Miss Saigon with his powerful performance of “Bui Doi” bringing nightly ovations. He then demonstrated his vocal versatility as The Hawker in The Who’s Tommy and dazzled audiences in Smokey Joe’s Café, eventually making his West End debut in the original London Company. He starred as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in the pre-Broadway original company in Toronto of Ragtime: The Musical opposite Audra McDonald, the critically acclaimed national tour, and the Broadway company opposite LaChanze. White originated the role of Mufasa in the First National Tour of Disney’s The Lion King, and after a year of touring, was invited to take over the role in the Broadway company. Disney invited White to re-create the role for a sit-down company at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas before he again joined the Broadway company. After a record-breaking 4,308 performances, White authored MY PRIDE: Mastering Life’s Daily Performance, a best-selling inspirational biography filled with secrets to fulfillment and joy in work and life published by Disney Editions. In October 2012, White released his critically acclaimed album, Disney My Way!, full of re-imagined Disney classics. In addition to performing in concerts around the world, voice-overs, and commercials, White has guest starred on Dexter: New Blood (Showtime), Manifest (Netflix), The Black List (NBC), Dear Edward (Apple TV), Let the Right One In (Showtime), The Girls on the Bus (MAX), Powerbook II: Ghost (STARZ), Mindhunter (Netflix), Madam Secretary (CBS), Bull (CBS), The Good Fight (Paramount), Elementary (CBS), Law and Order SVU (NBC), Code Black (CBS), and RENT Live on FOX. In film, White has appeared opposite Nicole Kidman, Marcia Gay Harden, and Sam Elliott, and he is featured in The Invention of Lying and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Recently, White made his directorial debut and starred in the US Premiere of Ragtime Symphonic, an exciting new version of the Tony Award winning hit Ragtime: The Musical with The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

John McDaniel is a Grammy and Emmy Award winning Music Director, Composer, Director, Arranger, Orchestrator, and Producer and is an Artistic Director at the Tony Award-winning Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. Most recently, McDaniel arranged, orchestrated, and was the Music Director for Carol Burnett’s 90th Birthday Special on NBC, which won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Primetime Variety Special. McDaniel participated in a live Playbill concert event in Times Square, featuring Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jessica Vosk, and Senator Chuck Schumer. He composed, produced, and directed a virtual concert of Sticks & Stones starring Audra McDonald and Javier Muñoz. He is also a camp director of Kristin Chenoweth’s Broadway Boot Camp. McDaniel directed Into The Woods and Hair in concert at the historic Patchogue Theater, Sondheim Originals at 54 Below, and Piano Men at Birdland. Broadway credits include Bonnie and Clyde (Drama Desk Nomination, Best Orchestrations), Catch Me If You Can, Brooklyn (Producer and Orchestrator), Annie Get Your Gun (Grammy Award), Taboo, Chicago, Grease, Patti LuPone on Broadway, and Company – the Original Cast in Concert at Lincoln Center. On Television: The Rosie O’Donnell Show (2 Emmy Awards & 8 nominations). He has collaborated with Cab Calloway, Shirley MacLaine, George Burns, Joel Grey, Betty Buckley, Bette Midler, Shirley Jones, and Katy Perry, and he has guest-conducted at 15 symphony orchestras across America, including 5 concerts with his hometown St. Louis Symphony. McDaniel received a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University.
